I noticed something about myself this week that i had not consciously recognized before. I steer away from glossy finishes. Im not sure why but all my favorite spaces are filled with rustic, textured, matt finishes.
So in an effort to expand my horizons I have been researching gloss finishes. I think reflective surfaces scare me because they show every imperfection and require frequent cleaning. The up side is that they are the most durable finish and are relatively easy to clean. Conversely flat finishes are often not very durable and need to be carefully cleaned. I have to concede there is something that “shiny” adds to a room. It’s the luxury. It brings a kind of elegance to a space, glossy is grander and more opulent.
Shiny things can be glam and girly or masculine and mysterious.
Shiny metal finishes evoke wealth and splendor and polished marble bring to mind extravagance and indulgence.
A wise person once told me that while it is important to have your own personal style, one should never stop experimenting. It is how you continue to grow and evolve. I guess it’s no different from sampling unfamiliar foods or listening to new music and discoveries are what makes life interesting. So I will give it a go, you never know till you try……right?
