I have just stumbled upon an apartment in Sant Gervasi, Barcelona, that is giving me a severe case of designer envy. Designed by Katty Schiebeck, an inspirational self-taught interior designer and blogger at Somewhere I Would Like to Live who describes her style as simplicity and minimalism melded with classical.
I absolutely adore raw looking natural finishes accented with metal and black, and the pattern tile provides just the perfect amount of spice to this unique yet practical kitchen. Love, love, love the clever combination of open shelving mixed with closed cupboards, the stone counter tops and the inclusion of both the sink and cooktop in the island bench. And while open living is all the rage, I cherish the idea of a cosy, enclosed kitchen with the stunning edition of internal glass windows allowing both natural light and a view from either inside or out!
The soft, neutral palette is soothing and sophisticated, comfortable and contemporary. The apartment is a brilliant blend of casual yet refined and in my humble opinion has the perfect balance of individuality and style.
Katty Schiebeck strives to create a vibe that is welcoming and austere at the same time which reinforces my theory that the best spaces introduce as much contrast as possible. Smooth, rough, glossy, matte, hard and soft, contrasting textures create magical rooms. Visual tension is the secret to a perfect space…..
